NaNoWriMo '12 planning
Oct. 8th, 2012 10:45 pmThe basic, most likely plan: Going for 500 words a day, an end goal of 15000 on November 30th. If midway through the month I am more than on track and feeling okay I may up it to 25k or even 30k, but that depends on how the start of the month goes.
Possibilities foremost in my mind:
1. Focusing on the anthology and ezine stories. If I did this I would not focus on word count so much as turning both into polished, publishable pieces, and I would probably start sooner than November. There are a lot of pros to it, but the biggest con is that it could turn into a giant stressor and is most likely to end in me dropping the ball and hating myself for it.
2. Fanfiction. It'll be a little easier to come out with something I don't hate, because I can do character study type things more than coherent plot. On the other hand, combined with a lower word count, it feels like a copout. If I did this, options:
a) the epic Who fic involving trans!Rory, an Amy into genderplay, wonky time stuff, the consequences of fucked-up timelines and recalling multiple timelines, a little PTSD, okay maybe a lot of PTSD, and all those good things I wanted more of from canon.
b) White Collar: Diana/Christie and Asexual!Neal/Lesbian!Diana, in which Diana explores polyamory and sexuality and the lines between romance and friendship and how to be in love with someone without wanting to screw them.
c) Whoverse AU of doom: Spyverse, in which there is no scifi, Gallifrey is a spy organization that gets blown up, and epic spy roadtrips happen.
d) White Collar: The one that follows Peter from when he is a tiny thing and talks about growing up, religion and faith, sexuality, the point where you have to make your own decisions, the person you can trust to make those decisions for you anyway when you really can't, the things that hold on after you think you don't believe them anymore, who you are in the dark, and the Great Pumpkin. All those things you don't talk about at the dinner table.
e) Firefly: The sequel to Questions in which River joins a war against the Academy. It got touched on briefly in a thread once and I've always wanted to play with it, and I always wanted to do more in Questionsverse via fic.
f) Sherlock: Something with Muse!John. Either the continuing adventures in the AU where he ran off as a teen/early 20 something and already knew what he was, or the one who probably ends up with the cat fae before he knows what he is.
g) Stories from Guardianverse, multifandom -- in which there are guardian angels scattered about fandoms, being awesome and watching over their charges.
h) Stories from the 167verse, multifandom -- in which people can only use 167 words a day.
i) Pulling out one of the kinkmeme prompts I've meant to write forever and working on that. Likely contenders: John Watson is the TARDIS; John and Harry are Mycroft's kids sent back from the future; postTGG John timetravels to the start of ASiP; Rory Williams is John and Sherlock's son; dark Peter character study ("Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats."); and I still have to go through and label my CP and some more Sherlock and WC prompts to go through them more easily.
3. Trying for something original, preferably something with a plot. Contenders:
a) Start working on short stories for Sentient Magic verse about how people deal with the magic.
b) Focus on one of the groups in Academyverse.
c) Footprints: That time Maggie and Susan almost destroyed the world.
d) The one where a group of people with magic abilities get rescued from the halfway house/research facility they''ve lived in their whole lives and... really just wants to go back to the place where they're treated less like freaks than they are by the rescuers, they get three meals a day, people are working to extend their lifespan, and they don't have to pretend they're normal to avoid being hunted down and/or treated like freaks.
e) Come Stand By Me: Either Cin and Regan's story, or short stories from the B&B.
